Judicial Review Hearing

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA - June 22, 2023

On June 21, 2023, the Ontario Division Court heard the judicial review application of Dr. Jordan Peterson v College of Psychologists of Ontario. The courtroom was at capacity. About 20 lawyers attended on behalf of the parties and interveners. Jonah Arnold, of Weinman, Arnold LLP represented AARPO. Senior counsel to the firm Mark Arnold was present, as was Weinman, Arnold LLP founder Joyce Weinman.

The CPO brought a motion to the court for a publication ban. That issue was swiftly decided, the motion failed, and the court ordered no publication ban. A court sealing order remains in place on the consent of the parties.

Counsel for all parties and interveners were superlative. The court panel was engaged, asking each lawyer relevant questions.

The panel reserved its decision. We expect a decision on this very important matter with written reasons anytime.

AARPO’s participation in these very important matters has relied on volunteers to date. The respondent College is a well-funded quasi-governmental agency. They have the funds and time to mount a strong fight to silence Dr. Peterson, and silence all regulated professionals in Ontario. This case stands for the proposition that professional regulators cannot regulate the private lives, including opinions and beliefs, of their members/registrants. Everyone will be affected by the outcome (professionals, patients, clients, and the people of Ontario).

Any financial help would be greatly appreciated.

Donations will be used to pay court filing fees and disbursements.
