Ontario Superior Court of Justice - Division Court Grants Leave to Intervene

Divisional Court grants AARPO leave to intervene.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA - March 23, 2023

The Association of Aggrieved Regulated Professionals of Ontario (AARPO) has been granted permission by the courts to intervene in the Divisional Court judicial review of Dr. Jordan Peterson's case against the College of Psychologists. The decision means that AARPO can participate in the court case as a friend of the court, to provide their expertise and insights to support the court's decision-making process.

The judicial review stems from the College of Psychologists' decision to investigate Dr. Peterson for alleged professional misconduct related to his public comments about gender identity and pronouns. Dr. Peterson has argued that the College's investigation infringes on his freedom of expression rights protected by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. AARPO's intervention will provide a unique perspective on the case and highlight the issues that regulated professionals face when their governing bodies intrude into their private lives and restrict their freedom of expression. The Association aims to advocate for a fair and just outcome that upholds both professional standards and individual rights.
